The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a prestigious event that has always been a highlight of the British Summer Social Season. Held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, London, HM The Queen and other members of the Royal Family regularly visit.
What to expect at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
From Tuesday through until Friday this famous show is open from 8am until 8pm. The Chelsea Flower Show closes earlier on the final day, finishing at 5.30pm. Guests can browse a wide-range of garden designs, which are positioned outdoors and in the grand pavilion area. Prized floral displays are also on show and there is a shopping village, champagne bar and various areas for lunch within the show grounds.
The Royal Family regularly attend and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is said to be one of the Queen’s favourite occasions. Television personalities and celebrities arrive on the opening day, which is reserved exclusively for VIP guests and media. Kim Murray, Judi Dench, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lily Cole, Helen Mirren and Gwyneth Paltrow have all visited. The BBC film throughout so you will certainly spot many familiar faces from the world of television, including Alan Titchmarsh and Sophie Raworth.
Event hotspots and hospitality
You can organise hospitality through Sloaney Season. Among highlights at the event is the VIP preview, which takes place on the Monday and this is a golden ticket. Throughout the event, the rose gardens are always a popular place to gather and admire some of the best in show. You can stop by the champagne bar or visit the feature gardens that are designed by some of the best gardeners in the world. The Harrods display usually turns heads.
At the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Raymond Blanc and Sodexo produce a series of amazing packages that suit a range of tastes at Jardin Blanc. Whether you are looking for a small table to retreat to, a private room or even a large suite, there are a number of options available. Tickets should be pre-booked for many of the dining areas and this includes the Rock Bank Restaurant, which features ‘The Best of British’ products and the Champagne and Seafood Restaurant.
A Charity Gala Preview takes place on the Monday evening and you should pre-register interest up to a year in advance. Numbers are strictly limited and it gives guests the opportunity to enjoy the show in comfort and style. With champagne, canapés, and music to complete the ambience, guests are guaranteed an evening to remember.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show sells out every year and it is attended by 157,000 visitors. The number of guests has to be limited by the capacity of the 11-acre ground. The show has historically suffered from overcrowding for many years, even during the pre-war era, due to the huge popularity of the occasion and the issue has needed to be well managed.
There are four grades of award presented at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and these include gold, silver-gilt, silver and bronze. There are several categories, including: Flora (gardens and floral exhibits); Hogg (exhibits of trees); Knightian (exhibits of vegetables, including herbs); Lindley (exhibits of special educational or scientific interest) and Grenfell (exhibits of pictures, photographs, floral arrangements and floristry).

The Chelsea Flower Show takes place at Royal Hospital Chelsea, London. Sloane Square Tube Station is the closest link and has both the District and Circle Lines. It is about a 10 minute walk away. You can also drive, but parking in this area is difficult. However, there is a large public car park in Victoria, which is not too far away. There is also public parking available for the event at Battersea Park. Bus numbers 11, 137, 211, 360 and 452 stop near to the show and bus numbers 19, 22, 319 and C1 stop at Sloane Square. Drinks and Dining
While there are a number of food and drink options within the showground, bars and restaurants across London also embrace a floral theme during the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This means there are plenty of delicious menus and fun cocktail creations to try throughout the week. Highlights include the celebration of beautiful British flowers at Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea and the Apricot Teacup cocktail, which is served at The American Bar at The Stafford.
