Glorious Goodwood

Sloaney Season has started! Here are the spring highlights of the social season…

Sloaney Season kicks off with Cheltenham Festival, followed by The Boat Race and the Grand National...

Sloaney Season begins this week with the famous Cheltenham Festival. Racegoers will be heading out in their droves to the renowned course to see top class horses and jockeys vying for glory. This is the opening fixture of the social season.

Away from the track, The Festival at Cheltenham is also the first opportunity of the year for ladies to strut their stuff in the Best Dressed competition. The theme is #ColourMeMarch, which encourages attendees to brighten up the week with a splash of colour in their outfit. We have no doubt that this will provide some cheer, even if the rain sets in for the week. Cheltenham is a highlight on the social and sporting calendar. Members of the Royal Family will be present as well as many famous faces from the worlds of sport, music and business.

As soon as The Festival passes, the social season looks ahead to the annual Boat Race. Later this month Oxford and Cambridge will battle it out on the River Thames and we have a list of the best pubs to visit along the stretch of water. Olympians past and present will be spotted in the crowds and we recommend finding a suitable spectator spot early on in the day.

The final highlight of the social season before the calendar becomes packed with regular prestigious events is the Grand National. For those who don’t make it to Cheltenhem this week, the Grand National is an excellent alternative. It is one of the most celebrated races in the world and Aintree welcomes crowds from near and far. Liverpool lasses have made Ladies Day almost as famous as the Grand National itself with their spectacular outfits and guests will be dazzled by the fashion on show.
